Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All that stands between modern Baltimore and the monsters is the black sheep of the Templar Order in this three book set. Dead Rising – Book 1 Guard the Temple. Safeguard Pilgrims on the Path. Record knowledge—both holy and unholy. Those are the three mandates Templar Knights have followed since the twelfth century. But it’s the twenty-first century and Aria is not a Knight. She’s refused to take her oath, and is barely making ends meet as a part-time barista in Baltimore when the local vampires approach her with an offer she can’t refuse. Last Breath – Book 2 What do a dead cosplayer and a ritual murder have in common? Plenty. Is the killer an angel or a demon, or both? Aria can’t ignore the bloodbath happening right under her nose, and she definitely can’t ignore the practice of death magic that has stolen innocent lives and souls. Bare Bones – Book 3 Skinned bodies are turning up in broom closets and garages, but when these bodies are identified, the ‘victims’ are found to be very much alive. Was there a mistake at the morgue? Is the murderer a serial killer with a gruesome fixation on taxidermy? Aria will need all of her friends – both alive and dead – to help catch these killers before they strike again.

Book excerpt: Set against the backdrop of the Atlantic slave trade, this book traces the development, exhibition and final disposition of one of J.M.W. Turner’s greatest and most memorable paintings. Queen Victoria’s reign (1837–1901) in Great Britain produced unprecedented wealth and luxury. For artists and writers this period was particularly noteworthy in that it gave them the opportunity to both praise their country and criticize its overreaching ambition. At the forefront of these artists and writers were men like J.M.W. Turner, Dickens, Thackeray, Tennyson, and John Ruskin, who created some of the most enduring works of art while exposing many of the social evils of their native land. The book also analyzes the man behind the painting. Aloof, gruff and mysterious, Turner resisted success. He worked as a solitary artist, traveling to Europe, sketching towns along the way, studying nature, and transferring his experiences to finished paintings upon his return to London. The son of a barber, he grew up in London and experienced many of the social issues of the age: slavery and freedom, poverty in the slums, monarchy and democracy, stability and anarchy. He was a poet of nature and its innumerable mysteries.

Each entry represents an oral history of a former slave or a descendant of a former slave and his or her personal account of life during slavery and emancipation. These interviews were published as type written records that were difficult to read. This new edition has been enlarged and enhanced for greater legibility. No library collection in Indiana would be complete without a copy of Indiana Slave Narratives.
