Download Nathan's Oracle (2 Samuel 7) and Its Interpreters by Michael Avioz in PDF Full Free and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2005 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a new analysis of Nathan's Oracle in 2 Samuel 7 and its echoes in the books of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles. First, it deals separately with the main issues raised in 2 Samuel 7: the disqualification of David as temple builder and the nature of the Divine promise made to him that the House of David will rule forever. In dealing with both elements similar texts from the Ancient Near East are consulted. After a thorough analysis of these two elements, an intertextual study is offered in which the allusions to Nathan's Oracle in the Books Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles are discussed. The purpose is to define the various functions of these allusions or echoes. This evaluation takes into account the changing circumstances of the Davidic dynasty, as well as the different agendas of the books in which Nathan's Oracle is incorporated in.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nathan Scott's Literary Criticism and Fundamental Theology reexamines the pioneering contribution of Nathan A. Scott, Jr. to the field of theology and literature. It both recalls Scott's achievement and suggests its continuing value by focusing on the question of Scott's method. Rather than following the traditional interpretation of Scott as a literary critic employing Paul Tillich's theology of culture, this book proposes that Scott's work is best understood as a form of fundamental theology. In doing so, it suggests that Scott's work models ways in which literary texts may be appropriately incorporated into theological discourse."--Publisher's website.

Book excerpt: The three Nathan narratives in 2 Samuel and 1 Kings, are given detailed consideration in this fascinating study. A persuasive attempt is made to reconstruct the original form of the traditions and to trace the modifications made to them before they were finally accepted into the Succession Narrative. The original Nathan, a court official and chief spokesman for the Jebusite group, sought a working compromise between the original Jebusite inhabitants of Jerusalem and its new Israelite settlers. After accepting service under King David, Nathan tried to secure the best he could for the Jebusites in this new situation. When this tradition was expanded, modified and theologized, the consistent Nathan of early tradition became a complex character, and almost appears as a dual personality: the diplomatic court prophet of the original narrative became an outspoken prophet of Yahweh in the 'theological' accounts of his activities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the life and work of Nathan Zuntz and specifically addresses the contribution he made to high altitude physiology and aviation medicine. While some of the material on this topic has already been published in English (Gunga and Kirsch, 1995a, 1995b), the overwhelming majority of it is only available in German (Gunga, 1989). Recently, new and interesting sources on the life and work of the Berlin physiologist have come to light. That was why the author gladly accepted the invitation from the History Book Committee of the American Physiological Society in 2005 to write a biography of Nathan Zuntz. The result is a completely new, revised version of the book which is based on more than twenty years of study on the life and work of this physiologist. This biography could not have been written without the help of numerous people and institutions. First, I would like to thank Dr. John West, the current Chairman of the APS History Book Committee, who personally committed himself so firmly to making this project possible from the very first day. I am very grateful to the Free University, the Charite, the DLR (German Aerospace Center) in Cologne and the management in Bonn-Oberkassel namely Dr. Horst Binnenbruck, Dr. Peter Preu, Prof. Dr. Günter Ruyters, Dr.
