Book excerpt: 'An indispensable resource for white people who want to challenge white supremacy but don't know where to begin' Robin DiAngelo, author of WHITE FRAGILITY 'It should be mandatory reading ... Buy the book, do the work and then push more copies into the hands of everyone you know' Emma Gannon 'Confrontational and much-needed' Stylist 'She is no-joke changing the world and, for what it's worth, the way I live my life.' Anne Hathaway ___________ Me and White Supremacy shows readers how to dismantle the privilege within themselves so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on people of colour, and in turn, help other white people do better, too. When Layla Saad began an Instagram challenge called #MeAndWhiteSupremacy, she never predicted it would spread as widely as it did. She encouraged people to own up and share their racist behaviours, big and small. She was looking for truth, and she got it. Thousands of people participated, and over 90,000 people downloaded the book. The updated and expanded Me and White Supremacy takes the work deeper by adding more historical and cultural contexts, sharing moving stories and anecdotes, and including expanded definitions, examples, and further resources. Awareness leads to action, and action leads to change. The numbers show that readers are ready to do this work - let's give it to them.

Book excerpt: Writing to Christians facing trials and possible persecution, Peter begins his letter not with their problems but with the solution. Individually, as believers, they inherit a triune salvation where God chooses, Christ cleanses, and the Spirit consecrates. Corporately, brought from darkness to light, Christ as cornerstone both establishes and shapes them. Practically, amid adversity within society, in work, and at home, Christ’s death as atonement saves them; and his example motivates them. He is also their overseer and shepherd. Generally and potentially, suffering for righteousness’s sake means following Christ’s example of nonretaliation, setting him apart in their hearts as Lord and living for him at all times like this. Even in their fellowships, leaders and led must be diligent and humble like Christ, the chief shepherd. The Christian life is really all about Christ. This recalls Peter’s word to Jesus at Caesarea Philippi: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matt. 16:16). That is what First Peter is essentially about. Living for Christ in a suffering world involves believing in Christ’s atoning death and following Christ’s example, whatever the circumstances. That done, all is done.

This book was released on 2019-01-17 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynastic Politics and the British Reformations, 1558-1630 revisits what used to be regarded as an entirely 'mainstream' topic in the historiography of the later sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries - namely, the link between royal dynastic politics and the outcome of the process usually referred to as 'the Reformation'. As everyone knows, the principal mode of transacting so much of what constituted public political activity in the early modern period, and especially of securing something like political obedience if not exactly stability, was through the often distinctly un-modern management of the crown's dynastic rights, via the line of royal succession and in particular through matching into other royal and princely families. Dynastically, the states of Europe resembled a vast sexual chess board on which the trick was to preserve, advance, and then match (to advantage) one's own most powerful pieces. This process and practice were, obviously, not unique to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. But the changes in religion generated by the discontents of western Christendom in the Reformation period made dynastic politics ideologically fraught in a way which had not been the case previously, in that certain modes of religious thought were now taken to reflect on, critique, and hinder this mode of exercising monarchical authority, sometimes even to the extent of defining who had the right to be king or queen.
